Title: Inside Adwords Event Outcomes: Mobile Ads get a Boost!

Summary: Google stated that mobile has overtaken desktop in 10 countries, prompting new ad verticals that are tailored to mobile search results to be created. These include:

  • Automotive – A carousel will be displayed for users to swipe through images and click through to the official site, offer or find close dealerships
  • Hotel ads for desktop and mobile searches were rolled out in the US last year. These have now been launched globally, allowing users to book a room directly off Google Maps or travel sites like Expedia
  • Google Compare has expanded, adding mortgages and expanding auto insurance offers. This move comes off Google’s analysis that mobile queries for mortgages are huge, but experience is lacking.

Title: Adwords Attribution Integration with Bidding Strategies

Summary: Search Funnel reporting has been renamed in Adwords to Attribution. New data-driven attribution will use conversion data to calculate attribution at a keyword-level right through the conversion path. This functionality already exists in Google Analytics Premium and will be a welcome addition to Adwords when it rolls out later this year.

Title: Google To Stop Displaying Emoji Symbols In Search Results

Summary: Google is going to kill off the emoji characters from showing up in their search results only after a couple weeks of displaying them. Search results were overrun by “cute and funny” emoji symbols which made results appear less useful. This does not mean web pages will get penalised.

Summary: The mobile-friendly update has now fully rolled out according to different sources and Google. As underwhelming as the impact was initially, it’s not over yet! Non-mobile-friendly websites were still affected, however, as many saw a decrease in traffic, and if your website isn’t optimised, it’s only going to get worse.

Summary: Klout, a service that brings influencers and brands together on its social media analytics and ranking site, has added a new feature to its repertoire. The new feature, which identifies the topics that an influencer has expertise in, will work alongside the current feature that highlights areas of interest and the Klout score. The expertise feature will enable marketers to find and use the most powerful users for their influencer marketing campaigns.

Summary: LinkedIn has rolled out a new analytics functionality for content publishers on their platform. The new analytics dashboard allows users to look at their reach by industry, location and job title. It also gives information on traffic source to your page and visit behaviours.
