Google Shopping and Product Search launched into Australia at the beginning of May after a long period internationally. As with any new Google product, it presents a great new opportunity, particularly for online retailers. Currently, there are some big players taking advantage of the opportunity but there is still many gaps in the market for those wishing to capitalise on the new search product. eBay dominates the listings in a number of categories, however it is obvious that these results aren’t favoured by Google as they are pushed out where a more established e-commerce store is available.

If you are a online retailer in Australia, register yourself with the Google Merchant Centre and ensure your products have well optimised titles and descriptions. As consumers move towards using product search, it will be important for retailers to maintain their presence alongside organic results and sponsored ads.
