After discovering an awesome content marketing strategy on backlinko.com early last year, called ‘The Skyscraper Technique’, I decided the test the concept out on our in-house content marketing activity here at Search Factory.

The results from using this simple technique were astounding with time.com, foxbusiness.com, news.com.au, buzzfeed.com and viralnova.com, amongst many other huge websites, reposting the infographic and linking to our website. The piece of content also achieved over 46,000 social shares and even briefly crashed our website under the weight of the traffic.

As you’ll see in the video below, the Skyscraper Technique is essentially strategic content creation that improves upon content in your industry that has already proven to be popular.

The Skyscraper Technique involves 3 steps:

  1. Find awesome content
  2. Improve upon that content
  3. Let the right people know about your bigger and better content

In the video I discuss how I went about employing these three steps when I conceptualized and developed ‘The Crazy S**t People Search for on Google’ infographic and divulge my own thoughts on creating viral content.

Overall, I would strongly recommend you test out the skyscraper technique for yourself – just make sure your website hosting is up to the task! For the slides, please see below:
